Your driveway sits inside your boundary. The crossover is the section between your boundary and the road — usually land managed by council or the state road authority.
That's why it needs a permit, has to meet construction standards, and needs a close look at drainage, roadside trees and underground services.

Culvert and end walls in place
A culvert pipe and concrete end walls were set across the drain so stormwater keeps flowing under the new access.

What is a crossover?
It is the section of your vehicle entrance between your property boundary and the road. Because it usually sits on council or state-managed land, it has its own rules — separate from your driveway.
Do I need a permit?
In most cases, building or altering a crossover on a council-managed road needs council approval. Requirements differ between councils and roads, so we check what applies to your property.
Which council is my property in?

Will I need a culvert?
It depends on the roadside drainage and the approved design. Where your entrance crosses an existing table drain or swale, a culvert may be required.
Can you help with just the permit?
Yes. Permit assistance can be arranged on its own, separate from construction. Get in touch and we'll explain what's involved for your property.
How long does it take?
It depends on council processing times and your site. After we assess your property, we'll give you a realistic idea of timing.
Can you guarantee council approval?
No one can — approval is council's decision. What we do is make sure your application has the right information and your crossover is built to the approved details.
